My Personal Lighting For The Home Tips

Purchasing lighting for the home is an important design task for your living room and your dining room. Should you have rad lighting, a mini crystal chandelier or you should go for the modern look by using lots of arch or aro lighting? It is not an easy decision considering that we are exposed to boring fluorescent lighting at the work place.

My personal tastes are between modern and classic. I like to have a pharmacy lamp next to my reading chair in the living room and prefer to have the classical look near my couch through the use of schonbek lamps. In my kitchen, I installed semi flush ceiling lighting that lights up all of counters when I am preparing meals.

Last month, I went with a friend to a lighting fixture store, and she thought that the outdoor lighting made by bega was for the inside of the house. We both laughed about it and finally settled on stain glass chandeliers,  murano and estiluz fixtures. For her bedroom we went with a swing arm lamp for the contemporary feel. Over her desk she picked curved lamps that looked like a cross between a halogen floor lamp and one of those pharmacy lamps.

In her library, strangely enough she ordered decorative wall sconces and large brass floor lamps. I tried to convince her to buy tiffany lights but she is very stubborn when it comes to shopping on her own.

In the dining room, she ordered a large lead crystal ceiling lamp that has a lot of crystal chandelier prisms hanging from it. It looks nice, but stain glass fixtures are better for a dining atmosphere in my opinion.

I wish that you could have seen the look on her face when I pointed out she paid twice as much for her murano lights as I did the previous month.

I used to surf all of the time looking for an honest decorating site that was not afraid to make suggestions. I liked your article on crystal chandelier prisms. I had no idea that colored crystals would work in my living room. Thanks:)

I have a friend in New Jersey that suggested that I read this site since I need to buy a large chandelier for my dining room. I want something that will make a big design statement that people will never forget. Any tips on chandeliers?

I have been a designer for many years now. I was shocked to find out just how great the lighting fixtures are at Walmart and at Best Buy. My clients almost freak out when they see how much that they have saved without compromising their decor.

I like classical furniture but my lighting seems to be more modern. I have a swing arm lamp over my recliner and a pharmacy lamp in the opposite corner. It is true that mixes different styles can be stressful for guests? I don't think so, but I would like to hear how you feel about it. Great writing style by the way:)

I am afraid to change my lighting in my living room, I have a crystal chandelier over my dining room table. Is there something such as a simple wall sconce that will not clash with this contemporary style?
